Lovelorn staff at a Japanese marketing company can take paid time off after a bad break-up with a partner, with more "heartache leave" on offer as they get older.
Tokyo-based Hime & Company, which also gives staff paid time off to hit the shops during sales season, says heartache leave allows staff to cry themselves out and return to work refreshed. "Not everyone needs to take maternity leave but with heartbreak, everyone needs time off, just like when you get sick," CEO Miki Hiradate, whose company of six women markets cosmetics and other goods targeted for women said.
Staff aged 24 years or younger can take one day off per year, while those between 25 and 29 can take two days off and those older can take three days off, the company said.
"Women in their 20s can find their next love quickly, but it's tougher for women in their 30s, and their break-ups tend to be more serious," Hiradate said.
Hime & Company staff can also take two mornings off twice a year as "sales shopping leave", so they can race to stores to hunt for bargains.

damn funny right.
but that line, "everyone needs time off" is so sweet.

After 36 years of arguing, Hugh and Vera Smith finally ran out of things to row about.
So for the last four years the couple haven't had a cross word ... or any words. Because they haven't spoken to each other at all.
Hugh and Vera still share a home, but live completely separate lives.
Hugh, 76, has the downstairs lounge with the dining room as his bedroom. Vera, 72, has two upstairs bedrooms - one as her lounge.
And to make sure they never meet they have drawn up rosters for the kitchen and bathroom.
Hugh, of Portsmouth, Hants, said: "It's a very awkward situation but our marriage has ended. There's no point in a divorce as we haven't got any money."
- also taken from Nothing to Do With Arbroath
and which is also damn funny, yet sad.

A dog thinks, "Hey, these people I live with feed me, love me, provide me with a nice warm, dry house, pet me, and take good care of me... They must be Gods!"
A cat thinks, "Hey, these people I live with feed me, love me, provide me with a nice warm, dry house, pet me, and take good care of me... I must be a God!"
which is why there are dog-people and there are cat-people.

A man listens to his son yelling at his mother.
After they finish fighting and made up, the man calls his son and says: "Take this hammer and drive this nail into that peice of wood".
Afterwards the father tells him to pull out the nail.
Than the father said: "When you fight with your mother, you drive a nail through her heart. But look at how when you are forgiven and you take out the nail, the hole stays."

A careless word may kindle strife.
A cruel word may wreck a life.
A timely word may level stress.
A loving word may heal and bless
*clears dust
pretty eventful week.
would you believe i havent had the time to go online since...
since the last time?
zzzz.
anyway the only reason why i can be here,
is 'cos i didnt go to work today.
couldnt even get past my front door :(
bad cramps, and vomitting.
machiam morning sickness.
(ohwell, its the same hormornes thingy right?)
so yes.
blessing in disguise?
teeheehee.
times like this i like a hot water bottle
(my plastic bottle shrunk after my maid really went to pour all hotwater in),
and hot tea.
and i read a book which says exercise helps,
but i prefer curling up almost double.
which is bad.
not good.
wrong.
but... internet! :D
so first up was the train disruption on monday, lol.
all the screens in the mrt station were showing "DISRUPTION",
which was hell useless after awhile.
the disruption was between pasir ris and tanahmerah in both directions,
but apparently the west-bound track from tanahmerah was affected as well,
so the westbound trains set off from the middle platform,
where y'know, the trains to changi airport set off,
which, y'know,
i kinda need to take.
there was an average of two trains a minute departing to the boonlay direction.
but then again,
people mountain people sea.
there was a shuttle bus between pasir ris and tanahmerah,
from the amount of people it looked like there were alot of shuttle buses.
jess was damn funny.
her mum told her pasir ris the shuttle bus got no queue,
but it didnt mean there was nobody,
there was no queue because there were too many people.
so just a little exciting thing to keep our mundane lives happy.
and typical singaporeans,
the next day newspaper forum had all the petty comments.
like as though only their time had been taken hor?
and the article said SMRT could be fined up to a million,
for not providing "efficient and dontknowhat" service.
which is kind of unfair.
most of the time it does provide smooth service,
and its not like the maintainence train broke down on purpose.
they were "maintaining" something leh.
but i suppose,
public good and yadahs.
anyway,
reached the airport and went to hide my surprise!
teeheeheee :D
it was apple strudel for my dearest fufu,
and i borrowed the fridge from the chicken rice stall.
muahahaha.
her face when i said, "i'll go take the strudel now!" was so priceless.
but anything for my darling! :D
tuesday night we ate at popeye's.
she couldnt resist watching the cartoon! :D
but i dont like the show.
olive oyl? pretty?
i also dont like cow&chicken and I.R. baboon.
gross exaggeration of body parts, if you get what i mean.
and then,
missed the first episode of heroes season two.
zzz.
and on the way home,
i passed by that used-to-be-a-basketball-court place,
where the people always do the nonya-ahpek dance right.
and they were grovelling to gimme more by britney spears.
wth!
so hip ah!
the moon was really big and yellow on wednesday night.
or tuesday night.
and closer to the earth.
and the next day it disappeared.
and throughout the week we were wondering when jess would be flying off.
and the next thing i knew,
jess was blogging from guangzhou.
;x
friday was supposed to meet lionel when he booked out,
but plans were so hazy,
and in the end he went home.
tealeaf-ed with kael at the airport,
STAFF PRICE!! :D
as for work,
The Good Life (as kael and i know it) is over.
on thursday i was posted to the budget terminal.
kael was supposed to come along,
but the current shop was shorthanded,
so i left first.
and, it kinda sucks.
the people are not not nice, but i feel indifferent to them.
probably because i dont like it when they assume we know shitnuts about nothing.
and are superly ocd, zzz.
and no (cheap) food!
double zzz.
it is sad indeed :(
but the sales are so erratic its funny.
during flight times there will be alot of people,
otherwise, even the waiting area outside nobody.
and i think the layout is better, than say, terminal 3?
see, big is not necessarily good.
over at T3,
everything was so spaced out.
people didnt know where to go.
like a few gas particles in a big container.
(talking pressure now are we? hah!)
at budget,
its just a square,
and the shops line the perimeter.
oh, with a genki sushi, killiney, polar in the middle.
people just walk about,
cant miss anything.
less people ask for directions too.
and get to meet more foreigners.
more foreign currency.
and everyday we have the updated exchange rate.
that would have helped in economics eh.
on friday,
kael was posted down to budget,
but she made a wasted trip 'cos they asked her to go back.
the other shop was shorthanded.
again.
and suddenly i was posted to the toyshop,
which was, guess?
shorthanded.
when i first called in looking for a job it was to work at the toyshop.
but they said there werent any vacancies, so posted me to the bookshop.
but i got to work at the toyshop!
and it was really busy.
the moment i stepped in had to man the register already.
but when people ask me things then i dont know.
how to promote things when i dont know the products? ._.
working at the toyshop is harder than in the bookshop.
for one is the initiative to talk to customers.
gotta know which toys for what age.
so far alot of people asked me what to get for a 4yearold girl.
alot of 4yearold girls in the world today huh.
another thing is the stock.
at least books were rectangular and could fit ohsonicely into boxes.
toys were squashed.
all the more experienced staff were kinda stressed out.
so i keep meeting new people.
at budget it was sue, crystal, nas and bashirah.
at kaboom, it was pauline, the store manager.
she's quite nice but... as rachel would say, on-the-ball.
cannot not do anything, always must do something, y'know.
which is good, perhaps ._.
then albee, wahyu, iza, faizal, and cantquitecatchhername.
and the weird thing is i click more with them than the budget terminal ones.
and its not 'cos im resenting that i got posted there.
boooo :(
to make things worse,
kael and i have totally different shifts.
sucks.
big.
time.
anyway the toyshop is quite packed.
and the lights are interesting! :D
and surprisingly, very few spoilt kids.
they was only a couple of boys who were shrieking "you promised you'd buy us a helicopter!" yesterday.
yeha, i was posted to the toyshop for this week too.
monday to thursday.
at the departure transit area of terminal one.
and there's a swimming pool?!
so cool right D;
and iza said there were people walking about naked.
gee ._.
wahyu got me hooked on a book called stargirl.
the cover is really cute,
just a * and a stick figure of a girl.
like how i say *$.
its a book about a girl who's really different,
first it was a good thing,
then it was a bad.
and the story is quite sad actually.
:(
and i think the airport is like a version of life and death.
arriving and departing, y'know.
every second things are happening.
there was a man who bought a stickerbook from the toyshop on Jan10,
and that was the day i started work.
i dontknow why this exchange seems very significant to me D;
other than that,
weisheng and i have been trying to meet up for lunch for about four days running,
and each time we couldnt.
zzzzzz.
saw amy yesterday i think,
a man said she was very pretty and wanted to take a picture with her or of her.
and he wouldnt quit asking when she said no,
aha.
and the weekends were jammed too.
saturday was cvd!
lunched with the bullied first,
then went to the voiddeck of vann's block to hurry her.the bullied tried camouflaging himself.
in the end beryl distracted him and when vann&xnn appeared he sort of squawked and leapt behind the column again.see, beryl appeared and she looked every part the teacher.
(she's teaching at orchid park secondary! minyi's alma mater!)agreed with nat to meet at some ulu place of the shcool,
so we choose behind the auditorium, lol.
so yay, girls in full attendance, as usual.
and poppy and ritty.
xiangjie and adrian were preparing for forest living,
and jiahao...
he had to learn swimming in the morning.
ahahahah ;x
i think this year was more happening than last year,
but i seem to be the only one who thought so.
maybe its 'cos this time we're the visitors, not the stallholders.
and seeing the teachers was good too.
(no mention of results, see)its mr.david's last month at yj,
after that he'll be going off to republic poly.
see how nat is not in the picture? :D
and omg,
mr.david's legs as skinny as nessatard's :Oand mr.lim kinda expects us to laugh at him ;x
see he and the bullied very brudder hello mr.sim!
such a hansum conductor hor. i was like, "'cher, why you never shave?"
;x
ah well.
he's gone to vj now.
what a loss please.
there was a dunking station also,
ive never seen one before,
only in spyro :D
and boy were the art students having a great time watching the art teacher get dunked.
i mean the graduated art students of course.
pity they didnt dunk the art teacher's art teacher eh?
*coughs
some other pictures, twin and i.
looking at two different cameras. they asked me not to put it up on my blog,
so i did.
as usual. imagine if ritty were this short.
i know not as glam as hers with xinyi la,
no wind blowing what. nessatard.
i want to tie my hair like nessatard's.
cvd ended early which was a pity,
last year it stretched on till night and it looked pretty.
probably the new principal thingy.
so we went to eat dinner,
which didnt feel like dinner 'cos it was really bright.
and then vann said not to go home so early,so we went *$ :D
and we went looking around at clothes too,
mum keeps pushing me to do cny shopping.
and clothes are elusive, they are.
sunday,
had breakfast with mum&sis at parkway's yakun.
and we were a tad early, few shops were open.
at lunch where i bumped into adam, christopher and karl.
actually i only heard somebody saying "eh, kristelle leh!"
like i some movie star.
AHHAHAHAHAA.
then i saw adam and i realized the two bodyguards next to him should be chris and karl.
charlie's angels, if anything.
and moomoo was like, "that's your sister? she looks so much better than you!"
._.
my mum drove my sister off to vivocity,
sister was meeting her friend,
mum went home to do homework
(how the times have changed)
i walked around parkway abit,
went into every shop like twice.
desperate leh.
then i went tamp to meet lionel!
or should i say, NINJA! :D
still not so black leh.
i was expecting charcoal.
and ritty and pop scared me, say he so bony,
but he's always been like that ._.
but since they gave feedback that he lost weight,
we went to find it all back at seoul garden!
nehhehehehehehe.
got my shopping done,
then went his shopping.
at ntuc.
for detergent and windowwipers.
lolololololol.
on tuesday night he surprisingly booked out,
met me at the airport where he was craving mac.
oooookay.
i wanna watch sweeney todd.
i like the timburtonjohnnydepphelenabonhamcarter combination.
and finally i realized what was so unusual aobut the corpse bride.
it was the bluishness of it all.
wellwell!
and i realized ive not been reading the newspapers recently.
today i did.
and got all emotional.
over the death of the man with four kids,
over the deaths of the two poly students.
but worst of all was the ERP hike.
transport fares suck big time now man.
first it was the transition to adult fares.
then the taxi fares rose which made me sworn off cabs,
not that i was particularly inclined to cab much, but still.
and and and,
CATHAY TICKET PRICES UP!
i hate spending ten bucks a go on a movie!
and now its more expensive!
i feel like migrating to china already.
and i miss rachel dajie and ivy and norsia and wan and nizam and hairil
:(
not making much sense am i.
- an hour later -
oooookay i went to see the doctor,
and was brutally honest,
said i'm here just for the mc :D
and and and,
on my way home,
i saw a temasek primary boy making out with his girlfriend.
who was bigger than him, but that's not the point.
the point is, what the hell? D;
okay i finally got around blogging.
the internet.
it poses many distractions.
zzzzzzz.
FIRST WEEK OF WORK!
and ive earned $241++, heeheeheeeeeeee.
thats my monthly allowance!
and its fun too!
went down to the warehouse on monday,
i never knew such places existed in the airport.
shelves upon shelves of cartons of books.
tottering all over the place.
and one guy climbed the shelves to fix the aircon or something.
like acrobat!
went back to the store and kael arrived!
she winked at me so we got our act on.
"hi im kristelle! kaelyn? i know somebody called kaelyn."
AHAHAHAHAH!
almost blew it when i mentioned i was from temasek,
and so did she.
"huh, really? but i never see her before!"
trying to cover up.
ahah.
wednesday and thursday i worked the closing shift at terminal 3.
terminal 3 is like vivocity.
big, beautiful, and boring.
bloooooody hell,
wednesday night was the worst nine hours of sales i ever had.
and it was just my luck to be paired up with some ***.
i dont know what her problem is,
but i bet its hard to pronounce.
we were both so bored,
so i joked "take book and read la!",
knowing full well we arent supposed to.
and the net day the store manager said,
"zati told me you begged her to read books".
and i went T2 to eat dinner with kael,
so i told her i might be slightly late 'cos of skytrain,
and that translated to her as i "requested a longer break, like one hour or more"
seriously, what. the. fuck.
and i thought i was being nice by at least telling her if i was going to be late.
if i get posted back there i might just quit.
if anything,
rachel (dajie!) and kael were fuming for me,
rachel said go and beat her up,
which was damn funny.
the next night was with a guy named iznan,
friendly funny 25yearold guy,
was singing the enchanted song.
y'know, the true love's kiss one.
him and kael will make good buddies.
the T3 store manager's name is fernando,
sounds like some soccer player eh.
everyone just calls him fern,
and he reminds me of mr.saravanan.
the yj sara, not the temasek one.
oh, and he reminds me of mr.david too.
very fit and doesnt look like theyre 40yearsold.
the other guy's an arab named syed,
and he's my sister's age,
he aspires to be a nurse,
and he likes to bake.
;x
so yeah.
closing shift.
T3 closes at 11pm.
after the counting of money and locking up the shop,
its too late to take train :(
by the time i reached home it was almost 0030.
and i walked.
screw the taxis! ;x
thursday night my daddy touched down,
so had a ride home!
:D
oh and the closing of the shop.
its not the conventional shutters,
its the glass panel kind.
suuuuuuuper mahuan man!
each panel must push till the location and lock,
and it costs 1.8k per panel.
so stressful D;
on friday it was back at T2.
andrew had said that all the newbies are posted to the T2 shop,
'cos they train them well,
then alot of them dont want to leave.
which is true.
the more senior people, ivy and norsia,
are so nice.
on friday it was wan and riffa,
who are still okay.
the store manager, hairil is like a big teddy bear.
muahahaha.
and nizam is this little, giggly guy.
the other two part-timers have been posted to their primary shops,
najiyah and yanqin.
waiting for their Olevel results.
both also very nice.
and of course,
rachel, our other dajie besides jess, lol.
we were doing book returns and she was cracking me up.
friday i was dead tired 'cos worked the closing shift the day before,
i was almost snoozing at the staff canteen,
but got high on choco minis.
y'know, the "crunchy chocolate snack".
so thats about work.
kael and i formulated how we'll spend lunch and dinner.
lunch will be at the staff canteen,
and dinner will be polar puffs and cakes!
i think ive been to the staff canteen a loooooooonnnnnnngggg way back.
kael said its normal,
but not so in my family.
so stepping inside was like wham! deja vu! memories!
and cheap food! :D
and polar puffs and cakes...
i know kael will start singing that song.
the ri bu luo (sun never sets) song by jolin.
which i discovered (in china) that its a cover of an english song.
called sunshine in the rain.
the driver in harbin was playing the techno version.
D;
and now i realize just how big the airport is.
walk up and down each terminal takes so long.
kael and i saw somebody on a skate scooter.
yeah, we should so invest in heelies.
y'know, the rollerblade-like thingy.
and the airport crowd is like different?
more friendly somehow.
like how i saw vincent ng!
okay la, i dont mean that wushu guy.
met a man in the T3 elevator,
and his name is vincent ng, lol.
works with the skytrain or something.
talked to him because i press the button for the wrong floor,
so when the lift stopped nobody got out,
so told him i press wrongly.
then he asked if i going T2 to eat dinner,
because the foodcourt prices at T3 are atrocious.
and some kids who come in the store are sooooo cute!
like this guy who saw himself in the cctv,
then started dancing around to see the himself dancing on "tv".
then this girl,
the dad ask her which toy she wanted,
and she gave me the one she wanted.
then later started dancing to it!
it was playing soundtracks from highschoolmusical2.
and this little boy named charles,
i gave him a sweet,
(of course i asked the parents first! :D),
and his parents were like, "give jiejie a kiss!"
sooooooooooo cute right!
ahahaha.
aside from work,
lionel is apparently dying in the army,
he wonders how the commandos keep alive.
and last night i came home to my email,
saying some singapore beautiful girls added me on friendster.
for some reason i found that very hilarious.
and after checking it out i laughed even harder.
and and and,
staff perks!
ive read 8days and reader's digest freeeeeeeee!
soon i'll be reading the gossip mags too ;x
oh, and meeting up with friends!
bumped into terence da-ge a few times.
at T3 i saw him at the NTUC across from the store,
then sat with him while he ate his dinner of pretz sticks and jolly shandy.
a diet if i ever saw one.
and eka da-ge flew off on friday!
had breakfast with him (and his mum! D:).
he's coming back on monday,
then going to australia for an 8weeks course.
talk about not wasting time D;
kael met up with adam for dinner on thursday,
he bought me the white fluffy merlion!
muahahaha ;x
then susanna and curina appeared on friday too,
bought newspaper :D
finally saw amy on friday as well.
and weisheng's schedule and mine clash like like poles of a magnet.
well falala.
i like work.
at least, this one.
pay might not be high,
but its certainly fun (the work i mean, not tha pay).
with the charlie's angels or powerpuff girls.
makes me feel that life is more fulfilling.
and oh, i sleep better at night when im tired :D
of course,
not forgetting the girls.
woke up to claud's talk of relationships on thursday morning.
heeheehee.
and jess is leaving for china soon.
CAN SEND HER OFF.
AHAHAHA.
going to celebrate my cousin's 21st birthday.
GOODBYE!
starting work tomorrow!
here comes income :D
had the airport staff orientation on friday,
it got boring and cliche at times,
but not as bad as i imagined.
the guy kept calling us service providers,
so i kept thinking of singtel and m1 and the like.
the amazing race failed its purpose though,
it was to familiarise ourselves with locations such as taxi stands,
but we were just straggling along those who already knew where they were.
so we didnt really take in alot of things.
there were people of all ages there,
the youngest guy was a 1990.
got into groups of 12.
met a girl called susanne,
from nanyang polytechnic,
and she knows norris.
she'll be sending me the pictures of the amazing race!
:D
caught sight of two other girls,
brenda and ida.
brenda is very cheerful and cute,
next to her, ida's very laidback and cool.
both of them are from tj, and tkgs before that.
had lunch with them,
all of us are the same age.
and ida turns out to be my kindergarten best friend.
hello, small world! D;
i still have the picture of us at the graduation concert.
met a guy named syad,
thirtyseven years old,
but can pass for twenties.
in the watch industry.
was from st.pat's.
there was another joker guy from the other group,
named benson,
i think he's an airport policeman?
he totally cracked us up.
two other guys in the group were adrian and ashley.
one in SIM, the latter at nafa.
adrian looks like a meatier version of nigel.
and another older an, called... andrew?
he's abit prim and proper.
and some other people.
oh, and i got to know a flight attendant,
her name's sabrina, and she's very nice.
and very short D;
i wonder how she became a flight attendant?
oh well.
thought kael would be hanging around the shop like i did on the first day,
but i guess they were too busy,
so she came just to collect her uniform.
at 5pm or so,
met her at tanahmerah and went off to tamp!
jess just left her office,
so we drifted around abit,
settled at the tealeaf (that's coffeebean to everyone else),
where she's slowly converting me from a starbucks to a coffeebean.
and its not bad.
met jess oustide fish&co.
asked them if we could reserve a spot,
but they dont accept reservations on friday nights.
then we went to shop for ling's present!
kael already had something in mind,
so it was easy shopping in a sense.
bought her a pair of flipflops,
(jess wanted one for herself),
and a cheery looking striped bag, kinda like a beachbag
(kael wanted one for herself).
then we went drifting around somemore,
looking for other things to buy,
bought a handphone holder in the shape of a logcake.
soooooo cute.
thennnnn we went to sit inside cafe cartel.
free flow of bread!
good thing we went when we did,
'cos about ten minutes later it became quite packed.
and then ling arrived!
happy belated birthday girl.
i had already decorated the order form,
so just waited for ling to decide.
after dinner we told her we ordered dessert,
then gave her the cake, lol.
passed ling her present,
we wanted to act like,
"ehhh! how come got a pair of flipflops inside?! free gift ah?! you can fit leh!"
but i was overcome in a fit of laughter and couldnt lie :(
then we went shopping around for shoeeessss!
and dora took the time to join us!
(reading jess' blog makes it sound like we all coincidentally bumped into each other ;x)
went to sit at mc's where we just about tortured a male staff.
we sat at a fourseater,
so i joked that kael could sit in the babychair,
and the guy was like "you want a babychair?"
and he was dead serious.
went to buy icecream!
for a strange reason,
none of us bought the strawberry sundae
=)
after a while i saw my classmate,
but i forgot his name,
so i was like pointing and saying, "ehh.. what's his name ah? joseph right?"
and ling went to beckon the same male stuff over and asked for his name!
his face was totally "huh what?!"
and all of us were just burying our faces in our hands.
(at least, i was, so i didnt know what the rest were doing)
sat there and talked a long while,
years ago we used to sit at siglap mc's and gossip/bitch,
and now... we're talking about salaries and pregnancies?!
we gave xinling a christian name too,
vivienne.
coooooooool right.
she looks so like a vivian.
jess proposed changing it to vivienne.
next time can call vivi.
heh.
bade dora farewell at the mrt station,
she was taking the bus.
kael got a sugarhigh,
and decided to dance on the mrt platform.
not just any dance, mind,
but those weird, sudden movements.
apparently she was mimicking some bunny.
jess and i automatically detatched ourselves from her.
ling would have too,
but she was laughing too hard.
the next day,
met the bullied and went for nyp openhouse!
got a tad disappointed at the entry requirements.
physics and biology.
chemistry? not really.
at least if i fail chemistry nevermind ;x
ohwell.
so we hung around for about less than an hour.
the school so big.
eeeeeeee.
i dont like such big compounds.
then we went to town!
got my blackshoes.
dawdled at han's.
went to takashimaya,
played hide-and-seek with kael,
only it was just the hide part.
and we saw kumar!
i thought he was a drag queen just for his show,
but damn it,
he could have been mistaken for a woman!
yawned every three seconds,
dontknow why i was so sleepy.
and the nwe voice on the mrt is sooo irritating.
:(
and i just came back from developing photos,
the bullied asked me to help him print photos so that he can put up in the bunk.
so i printed out alot of unglam 222shots!
muahahahaa.
okay no la.
printed out an extra copy of one photo,
maybe can give ritty ;x
so yadahyadah,
hopefully with work,
life will get more meaningful (:
first day at work! :D
and i realized my lifelong dream of being a cashier!
wuhahahaha!!!
my first transaction was the newpaper!
the guy gave me a dollar,
i gave him back 30cents,
and i forgot to put the dollar back in the till!
so wait for the next transaction lor.
and and and!
the price tagging gun!
sooooooo funnnnnnnnnnnnn!
and there's so much more to pricetags then i ever knew.
like the supplier code.
the date.
the quantity supplied.
quite confusing, that part.
other than that,
it was FUN! :D
reported at 10.30am,
the guy forgot about me again
zzzzzz.
or maybe i was early.
anyway another guy called gabriel had to call him.
that is, i gathered that his name is gabriel
(its what other people called him :D)
and he reminds me of dick lee.
and his handphone ringtone is jayzhou's secret.
("secret" is such an inconvenient name.
like, jayzhou's secret, wth.)
got my uniform,
and my gold badge!
with KRISTELLE on it!
woooooh!
but my name is just a sticker on the badge.
boo.
at the store,
i hung around mostly with another girl, rachel.
its her fourth day on the job.
so many newbies.
(the staff call us "baby", as in really baby, not girlfriend baby)
if somebody asked me to guess her age,
i'd say 20, but she's 26.
and she reminds me of somebody,
but i havent figured it out.
but she's nice!
in fact, all of them are nice.
service industry eh.
the store manager is ivy,
she's from china.
they said when she first arrived she could hardly speak english,
but she's improving tremendously (:
and she very cute one,
super stressed about everything.
then her face will pinkpink one.
then the other store manager,
sounds like mdm.aiysha,
looks like ms.amina.
i couldnt quite catch her name,
sounded like nausea, but thats not very nice.
she said call her nor, which is so much easier.
and tomorrow's the airport staff training programme,
which is reeeeeallly like orientation,
as in must run around the airport,
take pictures at so-and-so locations, etcetc.
and we thought people taking photos were tourists.
but thats not a bad idea to familiarize ourselves with the airport.
a place ive been getting lost in the past 18years?
so yay,
maybe next time i'll know where the mcdonald's is.
talked to lionel again tonight,
while he was washing his clothes, lol.
he kinda cemented my view that army very fun ;x
(sorry all army guys. making light of your predicament.)
he bumped into jialiang and marcus, and janson.
and his sectionmate is his primary school friend.
i mean,
making new friends and seeing the old,
so funky.
okay before all the army guys whack me,
i'll stop saying army so fun :D
so yes.
first official day of army for him,
first day of work for me,
and happy17months for the both of us (:

okay so this picture on my badge finally makes sense.
a botak lionel.
waha ;x
went to see my beloved Lion off today,
his reporting time was 1pm,
which was weird,
'cos i assumed all the reporting times to be in the afternoon.
they were supposed to pick me up from home,
but i had to cab down to the ferry terminal instead.
$11 fly
T-T
maybe they raised the fare so that taxi drivers could work less, earn more?
fact remains that cabbing will be one of the last few things on my to-do list.
aside from the $$ gone,
motion sickness :(
so yes,
there was a whole load of people at the terminal.
made me marvel that even though singapore is "small" at 4.3billion,
its still alot.
._.
took the ferry called penguin ubin.
its just a very funny name okay?
in fact all the ferries were called penguin something.
why did the company name themselves penguin?
then again,
why did the book thingy name itself ladybird?
mysteries never solved.
the bullied was anticipating lionel's arrival?
:D
and then he went off for martial arts lesson.
martial arts.
the image is cracking me up.
kungfu fighting!
and maybe its true that
people with a common goal/purpose are unified?
people all around seemed much more friendly then usual.
as in, all the parents.
the bullied said,
"you will see a long staircase, lionel go up, you go left"
which was true.
reached a flight of stairs which lionel went up,
while his parents and i walked down a corridor on the left.
we bundled up a bus,
went to see the dormitories?
i suddenly forgot whats the term used for them.
bunks?
D;
anyway,
wondered if they kept a special "showroom" to show to guests.
but i dont think so la ;x
then wondered if the room we were viewing would be the very room this batch would stay in.
its the ninja platoon, bytheway.
alot of army guys around,
all the "outsiders" were like gawking openly.
lionel's mum remarked how all the mums were fretting.
"no aircon ah! no washing machine?"
pampered princes ;x
it looked like..
an adventure camp.
so fun la.
the environment so airy and stuff.
lets leave out that tiny detail about strenous physical stuff :D
went to some lecture theatre.
some guy introduced all the uniform,
equipment etcetc.
didnt know the usual dark green uniform was called no.4 uniform,
and the one which look like the NCC officers one is called no.3 uniform.
these rankings and beretcolours and stuff confuse me.
remember the military-like cardgame in primary school?
blue border one.
so vague.
then we went to a public canteen.
high chairs, low tables.
i like.
and i wasnt the only one having fun dangling my feet off the floor k!
alot of people couldnt reach the ground too!
(alot of short people...?)
then we went to the auditorium.
it was like a ceremony,
with programme and all.
the enlistees were already sitting inside.
enlistees, recruits.
not talking to each other, lol.
guess before long they'll be chummychummy.
initially i dreaded the talks and stuff,
but it was mildly interesting.
watched a video of The Army Experience,
which was nice,
but ruined by a few lame songs,
with sing along somemore.
totally spoilt it.
made army seemed fun ;x
but the part where the soldiers receive their "wives" (rifles),
that part looked abit gay.
i dontknow why.
then the commanding officer (CO) made a speech,
his name sounded like tank car key
(okay its tang karkee.
with a long title in front)
slides not bad, speech not bad.
i mean, after putting up with "da xue zi dao"
at the hands of the Cheongsam,
this was easy listening.
then he had a Q&A,
but his talk covered everything basic
(or everybody was too blown away),
then he concluded wih,
"but i have a question for the enlistees-"
at which point all the enlistees went "YES SIR!"
in a booming chorus.
woah.
so fast got discipline liao.
then i dont remember which happened next.
they took the oath,
(all of thems prang to their feet like their butts were on fire)
i suddenly imagined my brother doing this,
(the oath i mean, not the burnt butt)
and my father too, a long time ago.
but the starting of the oath was cute.
all the enlistees boomed, "I!",
repeating after the CO.
then the CO said, "- NRIC number,"
and all the enlistees said their own number,
so it sounded like, "S -garblegarble-"
lionel's mum later asked him if he had shouted out "NRIC NUMBER!"
then the CO continued with "-full name,"
and all the garbles again.
aha.
then the rest of the oath.
then the national anthem played,
along with a video of the flag flying in the wind.
i think they switched on the fan to blow to flag for a good three minutes to film the video.
in the slides the CO included the timetable of a typical enlistee,
he mentioned how the recruits have to wake up at 5.30am,
but sleep at 1030pm.
so rise early, sleep early.
thats not too bad.
i was accustomed to waking up at 5am already.
(the emphasis being on the was)
he also pointed out that from 9.30 to lights out at 10.30pm was the recruits' free time.
and asked the enlistees,
"how many of you have camera phones?"
and one guy raised his hand.
so he told the guy to leave it with his parents to bring off the island
then, "how many of you have handphones"
and all the other enlistees raised their hands.
i dont know why it made such a funny sight.
then he said to the cameraphone guy,
"okay, nobody will fight with you for the payphone."
then addressing all the enlistees,
he said, "i want you all to promise that at 9.30pm sharp tonight, the first person you will call are your parents. not your girlfriends!"
and continued, "but sorry ah, if they talk 1 minute to the parents and 59 minutes to the girlfriends."
lol.
in the end they all called their parents at the same time,
and at the parade square.
the whole tour thingy was very parent-oriented.
after the talk,
parents could eat a meal with their sons.
food sampling i suppose.
the recruits left first,
then the emcee said,
"parents on my left, you can leave the auditorium-"
all the parents/relatives/visitors on his left rose,
then the emcee added, "- row by row."
generated a few laughs.
outside,
the recruits were standing in two lines,
like models.
so cute.
its like,
in 20minutes the boys were all so disciplined.
things like council investiture,
loads and loads of rehearsals.
and somehow, things seemed more honest.
so we picked lionel up to eat his dinner,
at around 4.30pm.
some deejays from power 98 and i forgot the chinese station were present.
ritesh messaged, "are the radio pple still there?"
wondered if i would see xiangjie and adrian.
turns out lionel's really in the ninja company.
sooooooooo cute.
considering that the first anime i watched was flame of recca,
which was about ninjas,
i have this very cutesy (and warped) image of ninjas in my mind.
smokebombs,
can jump very high,
black scarf around the mouth.
their motto is "move like lightning, shout like thunder"
what ninjas have to do with the weather, i dontknow.
and to digress abit,
yesterday the sky seemed to have a tummyache.
the thunder sounded more like the weird noises my stomach makes.
or my sister's stomach makes,
at night.
in china.
her bedhabits were damn hilarious.
oh, and lionel was like
"huhhhhhhhh, ninja ah! they say very tough one leh.
like, other people walk, you run.
other people run, you fly.
other people swim, you teleport!"
the teleport thing is damn funny.
so after the meal,
lionelboy went off.
the next i'll be seeing him is 25january :(
i'll be counting down!
his parents and i and everyone else made their way outside,
bundled up the bus,
and the bus ride was about 10seconds long, wth.
it must have moved like say, 200m?
to the ferry terminal.
so fastforward,
his parents dropped me off at the airport,
where i met up with kael.
she was there for an interview,
and she got the job!
we have the same job now!
teeheeheee.
breakfast/lunch/tea/dinner/supper khaki!
;D
terence messaged me a very ecstatic "IM STARTING WORK TODAY!"
he must be really excited.
so yes,
eventful day.
i didnt get to see my brother off when he went three years ago.
had the experience today.
makes me want to join the army.
aha ;x
aiyah, it reminds me of OBS in abit,
of the temasekclub camps back then.
dormitories.
peers.
outdoor activities.
anyway,
REWIINNNDDD!
to yesterday.
last day with the lion.
-rawwwwr!
eh eh,
met up at tamp where he wanted to eat at sakae.
and where we did eat.
then we went shopping for his army stuffs!
he likes the hotpink vanish! detergent!
and i suddenly realize how all the shampoo/soap are so female-oriented.
so funny.
after that he accompanied me to set up the bank account,
over which i was really confused.
the bloody banker woman did nothing to clear my confusions,
adding to them if anything.
thank goodness lionel was around.
anyway,
we went to a dbs outlet,
its the only bank i can recall at tampines,
having seen the banner every morning on the way to school last year.
got the pretty redblackandwhite dbs card!
muhahahaha.
we walked around abit,
went to the library,
(new foxtrot book!)
indulged in oreo cheesecake for him,
i dontknow how we managed to spend 5 hours like that.
then came back to my place where we slacked another hour,
and dinner-ed at 168!
the lady at the fishball noodle stall must have thought chilli was free or something.
and the highlight of the day!
after dinner,
lionel went to CUT BOTAK!
:D!
he lied that he was a secondary school student,
which, i dontknow,
made me feel uncomfortable,
because the whole time the auntie was like,
"your teacher never catch you ah!"
and all that jazz in chinese.
at least he didnt cry ;x
when the back of his head no hair,
then in front longlong one,
quite cool leh.
can set trend.
:D
after that he was like
"MY HEAD SO COLD!"
AHAHHAAHHA!
so anyway,
he just called.
measly 10minutes :(
and he's catching a chill.
must be the head too cool.
HAAHHAA.
reporting to the airport tomorrow for the first day of work of my life!
:D
kael's going to join me soon.
heeheeheee.
and i just laughed myself silly at florflor's first day of work.
she's a relief teacher at our primary school, fengshan.
and the kids are a major terror!
so what if she earns twice as much as i do per hour!
keep those kids away from me!
her account is damn hilarious.
some kid had a nosebleed, wth.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
HAPPY FIRST WEEK OF 2008!
has it only been a week?
oh well, this week in review!
(where have i heard this line before?)
came home on new year's day,
which was a swell arrangement,
got to spend new year's with my family and friends
(in a sense anyway)
my mum made friends with the lady sitting next to her on the airplane.
thats nice.
and there were alot of students on the plane too.
my sister wasnt the only one starting school the next day.
wednesday was spent slacking around at home,
familiarising myself with things like the keyboard.
snooped around online abit,
looking for jobs,
and got myself an interview on friday.
:D
met up with kael for... milopeng at 168 :D
on thursday met up with lionelboy,
we caught national treasure.
goooooooood movie.
although its abit lame that whatever he guesses always turns out correct,
but its the idea that national icons hide things, y'know.
i was squealing "is it real?!" to lionel at the mt.rushmore part.
funky.
but couldnt they get a better looking guy?
at least the girl is quite pretty ;x
and no wonder his mum looked familiar,
its helen mirren.
ooooookay.
on friday,
went for the interview at the airport,
and they forgot about the interview
-____________-
so many people working at the airport.
amy, terence, curina, susanna.
lunch khaki ;x
went on with the interview anyway,
they'd better feel guilty about forgetting and give me the job
:D
had alumni band in the evening,
i dont really understand why i keep turning up for alumni.
we played howl's moving castle,
and singsingsing.
ling got really excited over this particular melody.
and somehow,
alumni playing always warrant stellar praises from zat.
maybe its because we havent played since ages ago.
except for those propro one in jc bands luhhh.
i know im also in yjwinds, but different k,
'cos sometimes i mix up the clarinet fingerings with the sax one.
xingwen was like "oh no, we must wait for xinling to teach us how to set up the clarinet!"
and benny is our conductor.
i dont think its weird.
for some reason.
there are music people.
._.
anyway they switched off the lights to sing selvam a birthday song,
and jess was like "kris! you're glowing!"
thanks to my glow-in-the-dark tee.
:D
went out for supper after that with the usuals (thats kael, jess and ling),
plus florflorrrrrr.
i havent seen her in two years, come to think of it.
then again, been seeing her since k1, heh.
and the five of us made up almost the whole front row!
plus xingwen and timothy and jialin la.
but still!
:D
roti prata!
kael and flor got high on curry.
then, the plan on saturday was to meet at 3.30pm at city hall.
kael turned up on time,
and the next two hours was spent calling SOMEBODY on his handphone,
and leaving threatening messages in his inbox.
we walked to millenia uh, walk,
my first time at coffee bean! (and tea leaf. everyone forgets about the tea leaf, poor thing)
tried their lychee thing.
very.. lychee-ish.
kael got this morrocan mint latte tea.
latte tea.
thats saying something.
very "coffee bean and tea leaf".
and we shared a mudpie,
which was very cake-ish.
it was moist, so i didnt really like it much.
she didnt either ;x
at around 530 SOMEBODY finally decided to call back,
he must have DISCOVERED alot of stuff huh.
anyway it was jialiang,
who jio-ed us out,
after his discovery center trip in the morning with his army buddies,
which stretched till evening,
and who kept his phone (switched off!) in his bag,
and who conveniently forget to tell us anything.
all the time we were,
"do you think something's happened to him?
if not, we'll make something happen to him"
then we gave him a super tight schedule on his way to meeting us,
like three minutes to bathe
(kael says: "no need wash hair what!")
the bullied answered the phone while he was bathing!
HILARIOUS!
at which point kael said "i thought the discovery center's supposed to make you smarter!"
that line killed me.
then, 15minutes allowance to get to marina square from harbourfront.
this time he took enough initiative to cab down,
but oops, nobody mentioned the taxi fare hike!
;x
anyway we qiao-ed him for dinner at a place called fin,
all the waitress chiochio one,
bullied sort of scared them all away ;x
then we went kbox,
the three of us again,
a duadua room again,
but this time 'cos no small rooms left.
it was even bigger than the last time.
this time with a mini stage too.
too cold ;x
sunday,
town-ed with lion,
we caught i am legend.
some legend.
i dont really like shows which resort to sudden shrieks and movements to scare.
and which drag out suspenseful moments.
the girl beside me was totally into it,
sreaming, squealing.
if i had done a jonathan and shouted "BOO!" suddenly,
she might have died.
(i told vann an alternative, but i shant repeat it ;x)
and well yes,
i would have pelted the people in front with popcorn,
but we didnt have any.
the music gets me though.
when he left his wife and child
(i thought it was a son, but it was a daughter ;x
too much micah of the heroes series)
they died soon after though.
and THE DOG DIED.
my no.1 reason to not buy it on vcd/dvd!
that was the sadddddddest part of the show.
the mannequin joke was quite funny though.
"fred! what are you doing there fred?!"
then again,
it was a choice between that or aliens vs. predator.
and i generally dont like creatures,
which is why im no fan of lord of the rings.
but i am legend gets kinda psychotic in a sense,
i found myself thinking about the dog's dying moments at night.
boo hoo.
dinner-ed at nydc,
had a good view of.. the street.
saw teresa.
a marching band came by too.
wonder what the occasion was?
bought my sister the mr.grumpy shirt she wanted,
and in green too!
she almost got diabetes.
and today,
wildwildwet baybeh!
the sky didnt look too good,
but the drizzle was shortlived,
and after that the sun came out again!
and so many angmohs.
hmmm.
thought of everyone working,
or in school
;x
and for some reason,
i always get that sleepy feeling after swimming,
this doesnt even count as swimming, but its a fancy pool k.
got the job at the airport,
its the times newslink bookshops, or kaboom! the toyshops.
so diversified eh the company.
books and toys.
the main reason why i went after this particular job is 'cos,
i wanna work at the transit area!
can get in without a boarding pass.
teeheeeheeee.
my initial targets were the sweetshops,
but too bad.
so yay.
first job of my life.
something to do while lionel's away at tekong,
and everyone else is working :D
lionel opened a bank account,
got a card already ohhh.
and so has kael.
i always linked finances to the adult life.
we're growing up eh.
(last teenage year!)
and i thought my mum/bro would give me guidance on stuffs,
but apparently they're reeeaaaalllllyyy supportive.
im kinda disappointed.
fine, so be it.
if you want me to take the initiative for all these stuffs,
dont say i dont consult you for anything else in the future.
independence?
and since we're on the emo mode now,
kael mentioned something on wednesday,
about parents disapproving of their kid's friends.
you could say im taking it abit hard because duh,
im part of those "friends".
makes me wonder if some people really have closed minds.
thats not meant in a bad way,
so no offence to anybody.
i dont think we're a bad influence.
to put it bluntly,
we dont smoke nor drink nor club
and thats the very basic "bad influence" that these parents fear i suppose.
okay ive spent quite some time getting those words out,
and thinking of how to phrase it,
but the bottom line is,
i think what counts is the friendship.
friends who have been there since the first day of school.
friends who are there on turning points in your life.
and for my bit, friends who take time out to send you cards, little tokens, like the badge, remember?
sometimes i feel bitter,
i can send out like 40 cards,
spend days on them.
spend allowance on materials, stamps.
its a nice feeling to be remembered.
then its sad when its too small a card on its own to have much significance.
okay i dont know how i digressed.
but whatever.
felt unjustified that.. a blind eye has been turned on the little things?
not that im blaming anybody.
i kinda can accept that different people have different views on things,
which reminds me...
just yesterday i came across some precious memories.
time heals all wounds?
but each memory was still quite clear,
especially the "life-changing" one, yes?
oh i dont know.
;/

so *just* when i decided to blog,
the internet decides to get all laggy and stuff.
my sister kept wondering aloud if taiwan kena bombed or something.
'cos the last time there was an earthquake,
disrupted all the wires of the "wireless" internet :D
all the wires under the sea and stuff.
or something.
so ya.
must be some sign.
another day then :D
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
and what better new year present than.... ME!
WAHAHAHAHAA ;D
that's right!
i is a back from the china!
nearly kena heatstroke when we landed in singapore, heh.
not that we were wearing alot of layers of clothes,
but we've been living in an average zero degrees the past two weeks, so... :D
some things need to start getting used to again.
like my computer D;
and my sister starts school tomorrow!
waha ;x
pictures and details of the past two weeks (if you care),
will take kinda long.
more important activities planned for the week.
